Before I got into commercial real estate, I ran a Venture Capital Conference. Presenters were all the new and upcoming start-ups; the audience was made up of venture capitalists, tech gurus, and entrepreneurs. I was tasked with finding the keynote speaker. Long before “Shark Tank”, I reached out to Mark Cuban and asked if he would head up the conference. Because of my tenacity, networking, and sheer determination, and to my amazement, he said YES.
It was an exciting time. For the longest time, people nicknamed me nina.com. The executive producer of the conference introduced me before Mark Cuban came up to the podium saying, “we had to find a Hollywood Producer to make this conference entertaining, that’s why we hired Nina Steiner.” Luckily my TV producing skills came in handy in so far as being able to gently persuade Mark that this was a great networking opportunity for him.
Mark Cuban had just sold Broadcast.com to Yahoo and I’ll never forget him saying, “I just made 50 interns millionaires overnight”. I raised my hand and said, Mark, I’ll get you coffee, sweep the floor, work 24/7, please make me an intern.
I look back at that experience and see how it fueled my passion for becoming a commercial real estate broker. I love helping others succeed. Compass Commercial, a division of Compass is all about a positive mindset. Agents are always helping each other and I’m so happy to be part of it.
